Soundwave Tattoos: a Tattoo That Speaks

Share

Next month, a company called Skin Motion launching a decidedly different type of body ink i.e., a tattoo that speaks or a tattoo that you can listen. Each of the company’s Soundwave Tattoos can correspond to a minute of audio. It is a brand new way to express yourself using art and technology.

These soundwave tattoos are a way of expressing yourself and the things you care about, whatever those things may be. In actual, it is an ink-and-needle extension of previous efforts that use transferable tattoos to interact with smartphones.

It works by a mobile application that was built Nate Siggard, a tattoo artist who claims to have invented a way to turn tattoos of soundwaves.

He said, “Once the app launches, the consumers will be able to upload an audio clip to the app, purchase the resulting tattoo, and then get it tattooed by a Skin Motion-certified artist. Once that’s finished, they will be able to use the app on your phone to play up to a minute of the audio squiggles inked on their body, whatever sounds they may contain. Your dog’s bark? Your deceased grandmother telling you she loves you? (Bleak.) Your child’s laughter, like Siggard, has already done? The choice is yours.

The SoundWave can even be embedded as negative space within another picture.

The site asks, “What is more personal, more permanent, and more meaningful than a tattoo? A tattoo you can play back.

How does the SoundWave Tattoos Work?

A person needs to upload the audio they want into the app or website. It generates the sound wave from that. The person takes the generated Soundwave to a tattoo artist from our Artist Network. Artists need to be licensed in order to make sure they understand the limitations of the technology and how that applies to tattoo placement, size, and changes to the design of the tattoo from a simple Soundwave to make it more custom or elaborate on it for the person.

Once the Artist has done with the tattoo, a photo of that tattoo is uploaded to the artists’ platform. The platform will then processes the audio and tattoo and adds it to the app. When the user opens the soundwave app and points the camera at the tattoo, it recognizes the shape of the Soundwave and plays back the audio.
