Nowadays, it’s really tuff for users to determine touchscreen smart watches due to their small size. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania invented a new technology: Skin track technology. Human Compute Interaction Institute Future Interfaces (HCII) group held this research. It can convert your arm into touchscreen and allows the user to pass commands to watch to operate through skin touch. It identifies touch at various locations on the skin and allows functionalities similar to buttons or slider controls.
How does Skin track work:
Researchers have developed a ring which creates a high-frequency electrical signal. When the user touches the skin, signals are generated through the skin. It is possible to locate the electromagnetic waves source by using electrodes equipped into watch’s band. This electrode can identify phase differences that can determine the finger’s position along with the arm. The user needs to wear that ring in the index finger.
The Skin track technology mainly consists of two hardware parts, such as ring and sensing band. The devices will transform skin into a touchpad. So, the user can operate their smart watches fast. Once, the ring got worn by the user, finger starts interacting with the sensing band.
According to reports, keeping the ring charged up was tuff. Signals also tend to change as the device is worn for long periods.
The system can sense continuous tracking. For example, it can sense different gestures such as swipes or taps. To move between apps, you can swipe up and down on your wrist and, left or right to enter and exit a program.
This technology is also capable of recognizing hotkey commands. For example, you can draw ‘S’ to silence a phone call.
There is still not any evidence found for, it does create any effect on health.
