Self-Destructing Bullets: reduces chances of collateral damage

The Self-Destructing Bullets is a new technique developed by U.S. Army. This technology aids bullet to control its range so that the missed shot doesn’t hit innocent bystanders. Self-Destructing bullets could reduce the chances of injuring or killing innocent bystanders.

In this U.S. Army have developed a limited range projectile. This limited range projectile has built-in pyrotechnic technology. Due to this when a bullet is fired, the bullet can stop traveling forward. In other words, I can say, the range of bullets can be controlled after being fired.

The built-in pyrotechnic material ignites as the bullet fired and reactive material transforms the bullet into an aerodynamically unstable object just after traveling a certain distance.

Initially, this technology will be used in 50 caliber ammunition but now the patent covers the whole types of small arms munitions.

Researcher Stephen  McFarlane said, “The biggest advantage is to reduce the risk of collateral damage.”

Developer Christian Ellis said: “Just like an airbag, a certain amount of people will die when they get into an impact and the airbag hits their chest.”

“There is a chance they could die with this but it does mitigate the risk of death tremendously.”

One more idea designed to stop inadvertent deaths that act as an airbag for a bullet. In this, a metal ball named The Alternative is attached at the end of the gun. This metal ball melds with a bullet when to be fired which slows down a bullet and reduces the chance of serious injury.
